About Rachel

Hello. Before you start reading, I’d just like to inform you that this will get extremely long and rambly. I apologise in advance.

My name is Rachel. Rachel Helen, if you want to be a bit more specific, but nobody does.
I’m currently sixteen, and was born in the Scottish town of Paisley on the 26th of February 1995. I still live near there; I’ve lived in the same house in the same village my entire life. I like it here. It’s an old village, dating back hundreds of years, and is now a “conservation village”, meaning there are strict rules when it comes to planning permission. We aren’t even allowed a satellite dish because we live near the main road. All these rules mean that in a lot of cases you can look at photos of the village from a hundred years ago and see that not very much has changed, which fascinates me. And it’s generally quite a picturesque, quiet place as well.
I’m quite mature for my age. Or at least, I’m frequently told that I am.
I can be very shy and nervous, and I have basically no self-confidence, but at the same time I never really have problems socialising. Okay, I’ll admit that parties aren’t my thing unless maybe a few of my best friends are there, but just talking to people day-to-day has never been a problem, and while I can find new situations daunting I somehow manage not to show it. People tend to think I’m a lot more confident than I actually am.

I like music.
Funeral For A Friend have been my favourite band since I was eleven years old. I explained the circumstances surrounding that here, if you’re interested.
Other bands I’d describe as favourites include Avenged Sevenfold, Shinedown, Bullet For My Valentine, Stone Sour, and Apocalyptica. I consider these six above the other bands and artists I like simply because I’m a more serious fan. Some of the bands I’m about to list are ones I’ve barely listened to in years, but still have a bit of a soft spot for. Memories and all that.
I also, sometimes, sort of, listen to: HIM, Lacuna Coil, Panic! At The Disco, Paolo Nutini, The Fratellis, Thursday, Taking Back Sunday, Metallica, Cobra Starship, Cute Is What We Aim For, Chameleon Circuit, and Franz Ferdinand.
As of today(the 16th of January 2012), I’ve seen all of my favourite bands live except Shinedown, but I’m seeing them a month today and I’m looking forward to it a lot. I’ve seen Funeral For A Friend twice, and those were definitely the two best gigs I’ve been to. Bands I’ve seen through them being support bands or something include Bring Me The Horizon, Atreyu, Hellyeah(I’m told their name should be all caps but who cares), Out of Sight, Hey Monday, The Blackout, Pain Of Salvation, Tiger Please, and Rise To Remain. They were all shit except for the last four. Well, The Blackout were good, the rest were…just about bearable.

My appearance varies a lot day to day. I look vaguely like this. Surprisingly enough, I like nothing about how I look. Or myself in general, if I’m being honest.

I’m good at predicting when I’m going to ramble though. Look how great that prediction was.

My boyfriend is called Chris and I am very much in love with him because he is great. I mention him a lot in my blogs, if you hadn’t already noticed.

I’ll start university in September 2012, studying either mathematics or chemistry. I don’t know which yet, I have offers for both and I’m struggling with the choice.

When it comes to books, films and TV…well, I read a lot. I’ve been obsessed with the Harry Potter series since I was six, I reckon I’ve read each book over 50 times and have them practically committed to memory. I also like books by John Green, Henning Mankell, Terry Pratchett, Trudi Canavan, Stuart MacBride, and Christopher Paolini.
I’m not all that interested in films, I go to the cinema less than five times a year and own about 20 DVDs, and I think all of them were gifts. The Harry Potter films were okay-ish. I like pointlessly stupid comedies like Shaun Of The Dead, though I will watch pretty much anything if I’m with my friends because they have an ability to make anything interesting.
As for TV, I love Doctor Who and Torchwood, since I grew up watching old episodes of Doctor Who. I tend to like a lot of comedies, but for some reason I don’t really watch any of the big American shows that half the world knows about. With the exception of House, which I adore, but then I’ve always liked Hugh Laurie.

Right, I think I’ve bored you to tears enough now. If you have actually read all of this, then you are brilliant.
Thank you and goodbye.
